EDET 755 Introduction

ButlerHeadshot.jpg

My name is Israel Butler, and I am going into my second year in the M. Ed. Technology program. I graduated from USC Aiken in May 2011 with a bachelors in communications. I am currently a TV reporter for WRDW News 12 in Augusta, Georgia.

During my undergraduate career, I acclimated myself with multimedia journalism and an array of software programs and technological skills by serving as the Editor-in-Chief of The Pacer Times for two consecutive years, independently producing music videos and short films, working with the university's marketing department to produce the new web series entitled "USCA in Focus," and interning for CSRA Multimedia. Through my work experience in college, I was able to learn all of the skills needed in order to be a part of the new generation of journalists at News 12.

In the near future, I hope to make my news segment "Voices & Vibes" a household name in the CSRA before the year is over. My segment is geared toward teenagers and young adults in the attempts to increase the demographic of the traditional television news outlet. I am also an aspiring hip hop artist and film director, and I'm in the process of packaging a project scheduled for a late July release. Most importantly, I hope to be successful in this program, and I want to continue to learn all concepts and skills that will not only enhance what I can do but will enhance the way I teach others to use technology to their advantage.

As of May 5, 2012, my daughter Aviana Maria Butler was born the morning of my best friend's funeral. While this was a bitter sweet day, my daughter's birth and my friend's untimely death has motivated me to stay focused, keep my family and friends close, and strive for the best in any situation.

Whenever I have the luxury of free time, my favorite activities are spending time with family and friends, writing and performing hip hop music, shooting music videos, FaceBook, playing video games, and relaxing. My favorite sports teams are the Houston Texans, USC Aiken Pacers (basketball), and the USC Gamecocks (football).

I look forward to this course and meeting all of my fellow peers, even if it is going to be a month of tedious work.
